Transfer Window - They Haven’t Learned 15:33 - Dec 22 with 1716 viewsgosblue

If the various websites purporting to be in the know are to be believed, many championship clubs are about to go all in during the January window. Many of the sides we played early in the season just weren’t ready and it looks like they’re going to repeat their mistakes. We didn’t anticipate the intensity of the championship on day 1 but we very quickly cottoned on. While teams were bedding in their star recruits, we stuck to what we know and it has paid off in spades. Every time I go online, Leeds are signing this player and that player while selling their best assets. If we get this window spot on, it could even surpass last Season’s best ever January window.

Or with this logic sign nobody at all and stick with the record breaking team of 2023.

I know, I know we need strengthening. Or do we think we need strengthening for the sake of it?

I'd be happy with a decent rotation player for Hirst. Just so we are more energized up top, in preparation for the sharp end of the season. Hirst' minutes are increasing game by game.. If he were to get injured or hit a brick wall, fitness wise, we'd be considerably hamstrung .
Don't think its as simple as just chucking money at a squad. We know this ourselves from the "demolition" in L1...
Stoke in this division are another example of a team that went a bit crazy last window and have yet to really see a return on that.
I'm in agreement with the OP.. There's a hell of a lot to be said for stability and squad harmony...
I've lost count of the times oppo' managers have mentioned the, "yeah, but, KM's team have been together for 18mnths", sound bite. After dropping points to us.
You do wonder whether we've had to rethink are strategy this window, given our unbelievable start to the season. But I'm still not expecting an avalanche of signings.. A couple of decent signings , up front and in MF/AF would probably do it...
The "rethink" being, to focus more on a couple of proven players, rather than players that need bringing on a bit... Just my op'..
Really excited to find out, just like everyone else...

If we do get promoted, trying to strengthen in the summer will be way too late. We’d be held to ransom.

If it's based on what we don't have...

Another option than Hirst
A left back cover for Davis ( maybe replace if sold)
A left footed cb to compete with Burgess
A right sided winger to compete with Burns.

I think 4 is a good number. No more.

a niche perspective

We brought in 4 quality players last January and it was perfect. Too many can spoil the balance. I can imagine a loan with an option to buy should we go up would be a good option. If we buy an experienced CB I can see Edmundson being used as a makeweight in that or in a striker deal when one of the internationals comes back.
All I’m saying is 3 or 4 of the right signings max. We are carrying a bit of dead wood but luckily we’re not seeing too much of them. Stoke brought in 18 players in the summer. It’s taken them 5 months to start gelling and now it’s new gaffer time.
