If we went up... 16:37 - Mar 4 with 937 viewsharveybell05

Just 4 years ago, with the club adrift of the league one play-off spots, the fans calling for Evans head and a general miserable atmosphere around a club that was desperate for a complete sweep through, you, I and anyone from the outside looking in might be hard placed to believe just a few seasons on, that same club is now selling out weekly, is 11 games away from the premier league and is possibly THE happiest football club in the country.

As a 19-year old who has been a season ticket holder since the age of 6, I have always enjoyed going down to Portman Road with my Dad, my Brother and Grandad, but like other supporters my age, we've had little, or rather nothing to cheer until last years promotion. The memories this squad have given me and all of us are priceless, they will live with me throughout my entire life and even just the possibility of being promoted is exciting beyond comprehension.

BUT if we do go up, and it's a very big if, the club will have to change and adapt accordingly, in some aspects for the best, in others for the worst...

Arguably the most exciting but also hardest part of promotion would be the changes to the playing squad. The current crop of players are truly remarkable and many of them are genuinely capable of playing Premier League Football, However, many are not. There would be a massive turnover in players, with hopefully some relatively big names coming in but also a few of the players who have been with us on the journey possibly being left behind in the championship, at the end of the day it's a battle between sentiment and quality but one in which Mark Ashton and Kieran Mckenna would have to get right if we were to have any chance of achieving well in the top flight.

That leads me onto Mckenna himself. It goes without saying that he is easily the most effective, knowledgeable and entertaining Ipswich Town manager in my lifetime and just to get it out there, I DON'T think that he would leave us if we were to get promoted but there is that possibility. Whilst we are seemingly an attractive job and he has the freedom to Mould the club exactly how he wants to, there is still a massive possibility of heads turning if a European club came in for him. how do we adapt then? better than we have in the past I'm sure but it would still be a big blow never the less.

the biggest positive aside from the memories we would have as supporters would be the stability of the club. Football is a changing game and the gap between the leagues is growing but if we can get ourselves up, even for one season, the money the club would then receive would be enough to have us challenging in the championship for the next 4-5 years at least and who is to say we come down right away? if i'm being realistic, i'd have us in a relegation fight in the first season, but with a good window, we may take the league by surprise as we have done this time around! in any case, the owners would have a substantil return on their investment, we as fans would see our club back in the promised land, and we'd have completed arguably one of the biggest turnarounds in English football history.

this all of course dependant on...If we went up.

As long as nearly 30,000 fans keep Turning up, it won’t matter if we don’t go up this season, we will go up sooner rather than later, even ashton must be in dreamland with the way the fans have flocked to the club. This club is going places, and I’d bet my house on it, McKenna will be in the driving seat. If we do go up This season, I’d have every bit of confidence that wolf Clarke burgess Davis morsy luongo burns hirst broadhead Chaplin will be given a fair crack of the whip, add in to that Sarmiento hutch and possibly Moore, we could compete with the bottom half of the table no problem. There might be one or two who move on, but why break up a good team spirit. One thing these owners wont do is be reckless.
