It's absolutely horrendous and deemed appropriate as there was allegedly Hamas fighters in the building

Horror has always been normalised in conflict. Look at the number of films where characters are portrayed as heroic for killing and destroying. Where enemies are depersonalised ciphers, with no more humanity than NPCs in a computer game.
War is an utterly disgusting thing, with no real redeeming features*. Doubly so when conducted ruthlessly, or without due care for civilians.
* Only accidental ones, like camaraderie between those who serve, or development of useful technologies. Either of which can happen without slaughter. |  |
