Car insurance up by 29.16% despite no claim & no changes 10:52 - Jul 12 with 5012 viewsRyorry

Couldn't get them (NFU) to reduce at all, despite 8+ years NCD.

Their rep said such an increase is universal amongst motor insurers - but is it? How have other people fared?

Also agree.

"I always buy £3k cars, run them into the ground for a few years and then repeat."

Same here. As someone else mentioned above, you get seem to get no reduction in premium for depreciation anyway even for the much more expensive ones.

But can you get decent £3k cars now that secondhand vehicles are in short supply ?

My requote was basically double (for no change in circumstances ), however a shop round and I switched (from direct line to Hastings) for exactly the same bar a few pennies

Robbing b*****ds the lot of them

Re your last line - you're not the first to mention Direct Line being particularly free with their price hoicks ...

I basically swapped my chassis-rotting Landrover Defender for my neighbour's Freelander just pre-pandemic, plus about £1,500 going his way. He's a great neighbour but also a clinical, savvy businessman who definitely got the better deal there!

I'd never had a digital car before, and hate it. Absolutely shocked at the type & price of repairs - £350, twice, to reset the electronics which had literally frozen because car was left out in -1C; £400 to replace a door handle because an inner part broke so it couldn't be opened from the inside, etc. Backs up what others have said about more expensive cost of repairs to insurers following crashes.

Blimey. Ancient Landcruiser or Hilux it is for me then (but only if I want to imagine myself driving through African scrub with elephants and giraffe at the roadside when actually I am driving down the M6 with sheep in the distance. Or I could move to Botswana.) Suppose I could go for some pootling hatchback with top rate fuel economy though.

We’ve been with them for at least 15 years and every year we go through the motions that they put up a bit and then we argue with them and it comes down to roughly what it was

Not this year though - absolutely zero negotiation or room - we tried a couple of times - they’ve either changed their business practice or are just simply no longer competitive

I have not been to the Gabaronne end yet but the North and West are fantastic for wildlife. And a very peaceable, democratic country that puts quite a few in Europe to shame.
