'Trialist A/B/C' etc., 17:33 - Jul 31 with 1315 views | Zx1988 | I noticed this tweet earlier, that Phil re-tweeted: Is there any particular reason why trialists are still anonymised on team sheets and line-ups these days? Is there some sort of reason that prevents clubs from naming them, or is it more a case of it being a hangover from pre-digital days where, perhaps, clubs didn't want rivals to know who was on trial where? Seems a bit superfluous these days, when trialist's identities are known within about thirty seconds of someone with a smartphone seeing them warming up.

And it's not as if any agent worth their salt isn't going to be touting their client to anyone else who might be interested, no? [Post edited 31 Jul 2024 17:39]

I know, it does seem a little pointless. Town once had three trialists from Shelbourne who the management wouldn't tell us who they were, but by the end of the match we knew who all three of them were (Adam McDonnell, Dylan Connolly and a defender Ryan Robinson).
