Szmodics down the middle 14:06 - Sep 27 with 1136 views | Vegtablue | When we signed Sammie I was confident he'd line on up on the left, like Broadhead does. Davis offering the width, Sammie playing narrower and often finding himself central. Opposition have had the measure of Omari for large parts of games so far, I'd agree with that, but he is still our best equipped to play through the middle IMO. Sammie has also received plenty of opportunities to score from his current position. Is the desire to switch him to the centre and Omari to the right because people feel Sammie is better equipped to play here, or because people feel Omari's talent is better suited to the right, or both?
Szmodics down the middle on 14:12 - Sep 27 with 1091 views | FrimleyBlue | Sammy is better in the centre especially having delap dropping or hirst so szmodics can then run in behind. That was his role as Blackburn where he scored all his goals last season. The talk when he signed as if we play him anywhere other than Central we won't get the best from him. Hutchinson.. I asked the other day but i I didn't get a reply but what other prem sides play a player like hutch in the central role.. when you think summerville. Saka. Philogene. Sterling. Palmer. Foden. All very skillful players but all better being wide players and cutting across. Personally I think we will struggle to win games if we continue with the current set up. Its fine defensively but I can't see it working well enough going forwards as none of our front line are playing in their best positions. Imo.

Did you see his cameo for Blackburn's opener? I thought he was set up up on the left in that game, but his shooting opportunities came from running into and being found in central positions, like he has done for us. I understand wanting him to feed off as many chances as possible, but I don't see what attributes he has to be more effective at creating chances from that position than Omari, who to me is better at dribbling / operating in tight spaces / finding a pass. We've often seen Omari turn and drive up the middle this season, ultimately to no avail, and I don't see how Szmodics would do this more successfully. Is your opinion that we shouldn't be attacking in this way anyway, or that you think Sammie would be more effective at it? I don't know our opponents well enough to know if there are tricky attackers operating through the middle for anyone else.

As I say my thoughts are more based on blackburn thoughts on his season last year. There were a host of podcasts etc about it. Obviously let's see what magic KM can work with him. I just can't see it's that difficult for prem defences to contain us when we have szmodics and a burns/ogbene on the flanks that don't have that natural skill to cut in. Let's see how it goes we did sign clarke after all and I can't see him sitting on the bench all season

Szmodics down the middle on 15:13 - Sep 27 with 833 views | Len_Brennan | If we were set up to play with 2 #10's behind the centre forward, I would unhesitantly start with Szmodics & Hutchinson as the pair, with Sammie more left & Omari more right side. Playing in a 4-2-3-1 though, especially when the CF has to drop deeper to pick up possession, I don't think either have prospered too much so far. Of course the quality of opposition has a lot to do with that & we have seen both lose possession far quickly & more often than we might have expected, but it's still early & many players are still coming to terms with the level of the league, new teammates & a change in style of (inter)play. My own preference, in a 4-2-3-1 would be to play Burns on the right, Omari in the middle, with Clarke on the left; then have Ogbene, Szmodics & Broadhead come on for them in the 60 - 70th minute. I'm more of an old fashioned 'horses for courses' sort of person, but I do accept that the style & formation should change if it's not working, so I wouldn't be wedded to those changes if the opposition defence is comfortably 'handling' our attack.
