Latest view of squad, who’s the current preferred, keeping them all happy 14:47 - Oct 2 with 986 views | unstableblue | Always nice when the club’s squad page is fully updated with good player photos (rather than shadow profiles!) and the squad to January is confirmed: https://www.itfc.co.uk/teams Blueboots did a remarkable job keeping the emerging squad list going through the summer. And what a feat by the club bringing this squad of players together. I thought it might lack Premier League experience and whilst packed full of the best of the championship was a little raw. With Phillips purring, Morsy and Davis alike stepping up, and the talent of Greaves, Delap and Clarke already clicking… it feels in a good place. The squad is fully fit apart from Slicker (who they clearly see as one who can make it) and Harry Clarke, and looks like this now (those in capitals making Villa matchday squad): GK - MURIC, WALTON, Slicker RB - AXEL, JOHNSON, H. Clarke CBR - OSHEA, Wolfenden CBL - GREAVES, Burgess LB - DAVIS, TOWNSEND DM - PHILLIPS, LUONGO AM - MORSY, TAYLOR, Cajuste RAM - OGBENE, BURNS CAM - HUTCHINSON, CHAPLIN LAM - CLARKE, SZMODICS, Broadhead CF - DELAP, HIRST, Ali Did we ever learn if Cajuste had a knock?? - I assume so. But missing out were: Wolfie, Burgess, Broadhead and Ali. - I noticed our two centre back favourites were still warming up on the pitch pre-Villa, a good touch from McKenna. Broadhead still being held back perhaps. Ali being kept in the building. And will have a role with any injury. Keeping Szmodics involved and happy is key for me, has a role to play. Silly stories of him being unhappy Sunday. Certain games he may be better than Clarke, and I do still think Szmodics as the 10 and Hutchinson on the right could work - if the Burns/Ogbene power and headers is not on with a strong opposition left back - say Newcastle. Anyway rambling over. Squad looks good. A striker may be on the cards in January to further strengthen.

Agree with you on Szmodics, more of a 10 off the main striker for me. Now that Broadhead is back hopefully there'll be less need for Szmodics to offer cover on the left. Agree with you on January - definitely think a new striker will be out main (possibly only?) order of business. Al-Hamadi out on loan to a Championship club would be best for him and the club alike. No reflection on Delap or Hirst, but we need more depth there to get us through a long hard season with injuries. We don't want a repeat of last winter when we were without a proper striker until the window opened.
