Lets also agree it wasn’t Ashtons fault.

Theres some wonderful revisionism going on here. Lets just forget that there was a contract on the table for Hladky in January/February, Hladky himself said, "I don't know why it hasn't been signed yet"

His agent, repeatedly tried to re-negotiate the contract, I suspect from a 1 year contract to a 2 year contract and thats why he went.

Why on earth people think we would give a longer contract than 1 year to a 34 year old in a position that needed strengthening when we already had Walton and the extremely promising Slicker under contract is beyond me.

The irony of the OP is that Hladky was an absolute nervous wreck with the fans on his back and struggling with tactical appreciation for his first 9 or 10 games when he came into the side.

Look how that turned out.

He wasn't good enough for the Premier League. Is he better than Music? That's a different question.

We needed an upgrade in that position, though I am yet to be convinced that we bought the right keeper. Time will tell

The real issue isn't who's best out of Muric/Hladky or even Walton. It's are any of them good enough to be a really good PL keeper? And the answer to that seems to be no. Each of them has their strengths, but each also has weaknesses that mean they aren't quite the full package, and will be exposed as not adequate. Our squad has cost just over £100M, we probably needed to spend at least £20M to get a really good PL quality keeper. But we are where we are, we have to work with who we have, and try to work on the weaknesses with our coaching team. Maybe if we survive, its an area we can look at again next summer.

Poll: would you rather
