Had a look at the United forum Redcafe and their thread about the match.

Plenty of their team predictions ( mostly in Amorim’s prefrerred 343 formation ) an interesting choice is who their new boss picks as the wing backs , apparently at Sporting when he took over he chose defensive ones ( full backs ) to start with before moving to more attacking ones ( wingers) playing there once the players knew his system of play.

Would this suit us on the wings?

Their 3 4 2 1 will also see their middle 4 in a square they same as our set up .

In general they don’t seem as confident of an easy win as most teams ( especially Tottenham) were against us.

I saw something suggesting he was going to pick Shaw, Evans and Yoro as the 3 centre-backs - would wonder if they have the strength/physicality to deal with Delap.

3 on 1 could see lots of space between Midfield and Delap/their defence for someone to exploit.

This was when most of the team was on International duty; I wouldn't read too much into it.

They've always had respect for us - older supporters will remember they signed Arnold Muhren from us. It probably dates back to then.

When I was at Old Trafford (mid 90s), I found supporters to be knowledgeable and respectful of us. They were still saying Arnold Muhren was one of the best players they'd seen, 10 years after he played for them.

Yoro is meant to be very quick, but with the caveat that it will be his 1st game for them and his 1st game for 3 months after injury and in a new system.

Will be interesting to see how he does if Delap is on form.

I happened to be on a city break with my wife a few years ago in the same city United were in for a Champions league game on the night we were due to fly home. Found ourselves in a bar with a lot of United fans the night before, including a table of 6 or 7 of an older school. Proper United, they had all been all around the world following them including pre season tours to Australia and China and what not and were brilliant company.

Had a beer with them and as you say they were really appreciative of Ipswich and our achievements (before my time, but not theirs). We were in L1 at the time and they were all saying how we belong back in the Premier league and telling me stories of their visits to PR.
