on an emergency? The sun, mail and express would have a huge splash on the front page tomorrow. Lets see if they report this because it is those loveable farmers, not JSO.

"Other businesses don't get that exemption"
Yes they do - please tell me of any other UK business that pays any IHT whatsoever on their business assets?
I'm sure farmers would love to have parity with every other business in the country.
Land is not a luxury acquisition for the vast majority of working farmers, it's literally their business tool, just as lorries are for haulage companies or offices are for insurance companies. No land, no farming business.
That is true at the moment, but business property relief from inheritance tax is being restricted in the same way as agricultural property relief.
That is actually an exemption which is considerably older than agricultural property relief but there has been very little adverse publicity in relation to its effect on family-owned businesses.
I suppose that is because the farming lobby is much more powerful and there is probably more political capital to be made in publicising their case, but I did come across this.
Inheritance tax changes sound ‘death knell’ for family businesses, say owners
Rachel Reeves’ move to limit inheritance tax relief on business property sounds a “death knell” for family businesses in the UK and undermines the government’s growth agenda, entrepreneurs and their advisers have warned.
Business relief has existed for decades in various forms and allows privately held companies and shares in Aim-listed groups to be passed between generations without inheritance tax being levied.

Try driving in London on any normal day and you'll see ambulances with flashing blues regularly stuck in the sheer weight of traffic. The congestion charge reduced traffic for the first 8 weeks when it was introduced and then quickly went back to normal. Having lived in London for as long as I have I can safely say, volume of traffic in London is now worse than it ever was.
The difference with that incident today is they are at least trying to get out of the way, Just stop oil sat in the road and refused to move
Driving hundreds of tractors into the city is definitely gonna help congestion and definitely never in any way inconvenience ambulances, people on the way to important hospital visits etc..

I was wondering when it became de rigueur for people (even those with a limited connection to the countryside) to wear green clothing when they were there.
Looking at old photos of farm labourers, it did not seem to be the case in those days.
And what the hell is the point of "green" wellies?

Yer Leitrim bog farmer has way better fashion sense in my humble opinion. Its usually a uniform of skin tight Lee Cooper jeans, check shirt an wellies or slip on rigger boots. Usually covered by waterproofs or a ratty ol jacket. Timeless classic look.

Someone pumping up the land price for actual farmers gets annoyed when someone tries to fix the issue he caused.
sheep farmer / chair of the stock exchange - don't you also find that they're impossible to tell apart?
And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show
