Gap Growing in PL and EFL 05:41 - Dec 17 with 1131 views | LA_Tractor_Boy | It used to be the case that 2 points-per-game would guarantee the title in any league and 40 points (in the PL) or 50 points (in the EFL) were needed for survival. In 91/92 for example we won the league with 84 points. We know the gap has grown in the PL, but the gap also appears to be growing in the EFL. We needed record points totals to be promoted in 2022/23 and 2023/24, but this doesn't appear to be a one-off. In the Championship, Sheff Utd, Leeds and Burnley are all on course for 90+ points and 50 points will probably see teams finish nearer mid table. In League One, Wycombe, Birmingham and Wrexham are battling it out for autos and could all finish on 90+ points. I guess parachute payments have caused the gap in the Championship. And in League One, there are some big clubs including six that played in the PL in the last 15 years. So glad our owners came in when they did, otherwise we were definitely on course to be like Bradford who have never fully recovered from administration.
Gap Growing in PL and EFL on 11:09 - Dec 17 with 680 views | Sharkey | Birmingham being in L1 has effectively taken out an available promotion place. But L2, having got shot of Wrexham and Stockport, looks very open. An extra promotion place of course anyway, but I'd think about 10 clubs will still feel they can get automatic promotion, and about 2/3 of the league think they can still make the play-offs. Conversely, still a big bunch tbat might be in the relegation mix, even with just two to go down.
