This season won't be determined by results against Manchester City.. 12:44 - Jan 21 with 1001 viewsSaffronWaldenBlues

While I get the sentiment it's worth remembering some of our best results and performances have been against the likes of Spurs, Chelsea, Fulham, Brentford, Bournemouth, Brighton, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forrest, Manchester United, and arguably Arsenal. Those sides are all good teams in this league. Our worst performances generally have been against the likes of Everton, West Ham, Palace and Southampton. While we didn't play badly against Leicester we also didn't get the job done either.

Yes, we have been hammered by City, and totally outplayed and hammered by Newcastle, we have faired much better against the better sides in this league than the poorer sides, of which we were well beaten by West Ham, Palace, and Everton. We can win away at Anfield, it's going to be a massive ask, but we can. The mentality from the support that any game is a free hit is probably not the right one given how poorly we've faired against the poorer sides on average. The points can come from anywhere.

Though the 0-6 was painful and will sting for a bit, if we’d played fantastically well and only lost 0-3 the net outcome is still exactly the same in terms of points and league placing. Best to forget it take each game at it comes and hopefully s5ithouse our way to staying up with a record lowest points total ever.

The season will be determined by results of all 38 games as always. Every game matters.

It's a shame we couldn't have kept the GD down but we were not set up to limit them in any way and for 20 minutes we did cause them some issues, we just can't maintain it and we make so many mistakes that team as good as that will punish them all day long. We probably should have tried to play it like we did against Arsenal.

They scored 6 goals in 43 mins with little resistance.

Luckily they took their big hitters off.

Many of the bigger teams set up against us totally differently as they have the firepower and are able to control the game. Those we struggle against don't allow our fullbacks room to attack. Against Crystal Palace they pushed up on us to the extent that we couldn't play out from the back and if was only in the second half that Muric started hitting long balls up field. The idea seems to be to stifle play through the midfield and isolate our loan striker. I think we need to be a bit more cute when up against this type of play. I thought actually that against City Philogene came on and played a nice cameo roll. Neat and tidy with a bit of trickery.

Philogene had a good season in the Championship, like most of our players last season, it's whether or not he can replicate that in the top flight that is the big question.

I think at home, Town feel they need to try to make more of the running & that's probably why our home record is poorer. The reality is that we still have a decent chance of staying up, with arguably 4 teams contesting 2 relegation places. I fear another thumping at Liverpool, but Southampton at home feels like a "must win", even given McKenna's disdain for such a term.
