Two achievements we can manage this season.. 11:08 - Mar 5 with 3156 views | SaffronWaldenBlues | Now we have missed out of the FA Cup quarter-final, and bar a radical turn around in form, we're likely going down. There are two things we can potentially be very proud of this season if it happens. Liam Delap playing for England, and George Hirst playing for Scotland. Credit to McKenna if that happens. Hirst and Delap have come on leaps and bounds under him, if you think of Delap at Hull and Hirst at Rotherham, compared to now where they are Premier Legaue goalscorers and potentially internationals, that does show McKenna's ability to improve players being his real strength here. It would be fantastic to see if it happened. I also think Omari may be more likely to get a squad place look in than Davis at present. I think that given that Delap could still play for Ireland and Omari could still be a full international for Jamaica (I know he's played some friendly games), there may be added incentives to give them both minutes for England, if only to protect our interests going forward.

Two achievements we can manage this season.. on 14:06 - Mar 6 by HighgateBlue | I suppose everyone has a different idea of what constitutes "radical". I agree, of course, that we are not losing every game comfortably. However, even draws really aren't a great deal of use without sufficient wins. The number of wins we need makes the requisite change in form, if not radical, then highly unlikely. Being able to battle to a 1-1 draw in between losses ain't gonna keep us up. Winless in 8 league games, and in my view we need 3 wins from 11. It's not impossible, but I think we must beat Leicester and Wolves and at least one other. Losing at home to the team adrift at the bottom, losing to a team with fewer players, and then getting another couple injured in the Cup does not indicate that this is likely. But I suppose whilst there's hope... |
but that's what i'm saying; a draw is fine margins away from a win, just needs one bit of luck, one moment of genius, one moment of madness to go our way. maybe unlikely, but not a radical change!

Two achievements we can manage this season.. on 11:35 - Mar 5 by SaffronWaldenBlues | Why not? Do you understand what an achievement that would be for Ipswich to have someone to play for England again? It would be huge, it's been decades, we talk about what progress means. Well, that's an example of progress. If nothing else matters, would relegation be an abject failure in your eyes? I don't think it is, It's a different world now in football; to be within touching distance of staying up most of the season when we could have easily done a Southampton is an achievement, even once it is mathematically confirmed we are down. I have no complaints. it is disappointing, but we were not ready for this and couldn't attract players at a price we could afford/within the rules to keep us up. It's the nature of the beast as we head into the closed-shop era. |
I disagree. International caps are thrown around like confetti these days & getting an England cap doesn't mean quite what it used to, with huge squads & umpteen subs in friendly games. Same goes for Hirst playing for Scotland vis the absurd grandparent rule. I'd rather he took a break when the internationals were on & was fully fit for Town.
