Cajuste 11:21 - Mar 29 with 5336 views | catch74 | From Watson’s article: "I think Suffolk does suit me," he concurs. "Like you said, I'm pretty relaxed, pretty laid back, so I think it suits me like a hand in the glove. I think it's perfect for me." He’s fairly non-committal about staying but says he’s learnt loads from McKenna and will continue to do so as time goes on. Come on Jens you know it makes sense.

Cajuste on 11:34 - Mar 31 by ReusersTown | Well Brentford were going to sign him before he had actually had proved himself as a viable Prem player. So if assume they'd be interested, unless the injury would still put them off. Itv wouldn't put me off looking at his performance and the price. |
I think the injuries might put us off, as much as anyone else. He hasn't been able to complete too many 90 min games and he can't really start two games in a week. Maybe that's ok for a club with a large squad who can carry the wage and transfer fee, but he doesn't feel like he has huge resale value currently.

Depends how you view it I suppose. Not everyone we sign has to be with an eye on making a whopping profit in the future. €12m for him on say a 4 year deal looks a bargain to me even if you only get 30-35 games out of him per season. He would be a Rolls Royce in the Championship and we know he can cut it in the PL too. People keep talking about Downes. I think he would be a cracking signing but he's older than Cajuste and doesn't feel to me like he will ever have any huge resale value above and beyond what he would cost us either.

Can he cut it in the PL though? I mean, he has the ability, but if he has a long term fitness issue that we have to manage and means we cant get any consistency into our CM positions, then thats a hefty investment that might not necessarily give us as much value as it should and wont give us any resale value either. If we spent that money on Downes, we would get a player who may/may not develop further as a PL player, but he definitely will be fit and available every week and will likely cost less (wages included) across 4 years....

At what point do we stop talking about his fitness issues? He's been very consistent over the past three months and played 90 minutes on a good few occasions. Equally, McKenna will always make changes in that area of the pitch to freshen things up, so him being subbed late in games is not necessarily a reflection on his fitness. Regardless, I'm convinced he won't be here next season. What does anyone expect him to say in interviews? 'I'm off, Suffolk's not for me and I'm much better than the second tier.'

Delap aside, he has been our best player by a mile for me. Perhaps unsurprisingly given where he came from, he is a better player than Downes for sure. And I think the fitness thing is a bit over egged. He's played 60+ minutes in 17 of our last 21 games. Generally it has been 70 mins+ too. Would Downes cost less? The transfer fee would be higher for a start I would think and should imagine his wages aren't in a dissimilar ball park. Downes looks to me like a very good Championship player. Can't say I have seen much evidence he is going to develop beyond that level. He's not done much at Southampton or West Ham at PL level.
