The riches on offer in the Premier league, the star players, the shine of new stadiums , all those things were there. When the spot lights and fireworks had faded however, we were able to see what the Premier League is really about. The bank balance of those routine relegation avoiders bulges by various amounts exceeding £150 million every season, making it more unlikely with each passing season that any club coming up from the championship will be able to gatecrash this party. Those clubs who find themselves regularly jostling for position in the Lower half of the league have now got the comfort of knowing the promoted clubs are highly unlikely to have the financial ability to compete with them, let alone being able to cope with the rest of the circus , which features the headline acts of referees dishing out decisive moments like clowns with buckets of water and the VAR ringmasters seemingly much more eager to see justice done for their regular customers on the Premier league fixture list , than the single season visitors from the championship. Should the Town find themselves in a position this time next season to make another attempt at the elite, at least we will all have fresh memories of what can and more than likely, will be awaiting us in another ride through gold lined grounds of the Premier league. It will never be a level playing field , however, and if we can actually survive a season with the odds stacked against us , it will be despite the decisions going against us on a regular basis rather than because we got a fair crack of the whip. | |
