While a lot of focus will be on Reform, the Lib Dems are making significant gains as the right splinters. Some effects also from Labour's loss of vote share, but very much secondary to the collapse of the Tory party in seats where the Lib Dems are competing.

Conservative came into this with over 1000 defences out of the total 1600 seats and they're probably going to come out 3rd on seat count behind the Lib Dems. Lib Dems will be taking control or at least becoming largest part in a NOC in plenty of Southern areas like Shropshire, Gloucestershire, Cambridgeshire and Devon (already confirmed NOC, but Lib Dems only a couple short of majority).

Only blemish personally will be that my ward has just gone Reform, but the rest of my borough has stayed Liberal.

Great graphical example of the struggle the Tories face so long as Reform and they exist at the same time:

Devon Council Result #LE2025: LDM: 27 (+18) RFM: 18 (+18) CON: 7 (-32) GRN: 6 (+4) IND: 2 (-1) LAB: 0 (-7) Conservative LOSE to No Overall Control.

Nice to see the Greens doing well in Exeter where the Global Systems Institute and Met Office have been working hard to engage the public on climate change.

I have been impressed with my Lib Dem MP on climate issues, homelessness, poverty and cuts to the adoption and guardianship support fund. Glad I lent them my vote at the last GE.

good news, but unfortunately it'll receive next to no coverage in the rightwing media which dominates the uk; they're far too busy enabling nigel and his cronies

Unless Ed has some crazy stunt lined up I doubt it gets much of a mention.

Latest is that they are confirmed largest party, but NOC in Gloucestershire (1 short), Wiltshire(5 short) , Devon (3 Short).
Currently on track to win Cambridgeshire, Shropshire outright and become largest party in Hertfordshire, Cornwall and Oxfordshire.

Cambridgeshire and Oxfordshire both go Lib Dem.

Meanwhile in Shropshire there are 7 close races with recounts going on. One of the recounts is on its third one and if it comes out a tie for a third time, then there will be a drawing of lots.

Their share of the vote hasn't reached 2010 levels, however we're in an era where there are 5 parties polling above 10% and sometimes 4 above 15%. Hitting their 2010 level of public support could have them as the most popular party overall.

The other change is that their support is now much less evenly spread. In 2010 they got their best vote share (23%) and got 62 seats. Last year they only got (12.2%) but got their best ever return of 72 seats. Reason being partly that Tories got split by reform. Partly because their vote is now much more concentrated in certain areas.

I think it's a strength at the moment because if you can secure a core it means you can hope to try and avoid the last 2010s wipeout problem, but makes breakout like Reform have done harder.
