ITFC Premiership Curious Comparisons to 01/02 04:36 - May 26 with 545 views | MVBlue | I observed a few similarities, being witness to that last Premiership season that we experienced, quite interesting comparisons: Then - Ulrich Le Pen, fast winger, paid £1m fee a fair amount, injured very early on didn't play again. This season - Fast winger Chiedozie Ogbene signed for £8m played 5 games but injured and out for the season, sapping our ability to use extra wingers. Then - Manager of the season previous year - George Burley. A curse more than an endowment, relegated and can't replicate previous season. This season - Kieron McKenna jumps two leagues with scintillating football, manager of the year for Ipswichs promotion, the next great thing but can't do enough to turn draws into wins and we go down. Then - Marcus Bent, sought after and expensive, the answer to our problems maybe? Fourth biggest signing and arrives late into the season. Does fine but the big outlay can't help us survive. This Season -Jayden Philogene, Signs in January after a long pursuit for £20 million, one of the largest fees. Has a couple of good games but doesn't perform in ways that truly kicks us on and we are relegated. Then - Richard Wright, stall wart of the Ipswich Town 5th place team, drawing big plaudits from many onlookers, England call ups, match winning saves. Departs to be replaced by a less steady expensive goalkeeper, very different style, upsetting a solid defence. This season - Ipswich lose promotion goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky whos clever play with feet passing out from the back gave Ipswich a new dynamic, decent shot stopper but left on a free. Replaced by Muric, who was a different style of keeper, altering the defence inevitably, leading to less convincing style of play at the back. [Post edited 26 May 4:46]

Us, Derby and Leicester all went into administration the year after relegation. Rather than trying to get the Premier League under some kind of financial control, they just decided to move the divide downwards.

Thats a very good spot, and a remarkable statistic. He first arrived with them in March 2002 and kept them up, then this season repeated it, both stints affecting our own battles with relegation adversely. Another similarity with 01/02.
