This new phenomenon of inbetween clubs applies to players? 09:08 - Jun 6 with 636 viewsthebooks

General feeling that Burnley, Sheff U, Leeds, Southampton, Leicester(?), Sunderland and possibly a few others (now including us, hopefully?) will spend their lives shuffling between the Championship and PL purgatory.

Implies there are a bunch of players that do the same, perhaps including Szmodics, O’Shea, Clarke (J) and Broadhead, and they’ll be shifted around these teams depending on which are in the PL at any given time.

I’d argue Omari, Tuanzebe and Davis are true PL quality, so don’t count in this.

If that’s the case then we possibly see more players leave (or at least bid for) than we expected. It’s a particular problem for us because we were playing catch-up more than Southampton and Leicester last season. They already have more of these types of players in their teams, as do Burnley, Leeds etc. than we did.

That could be nonsense, of course. Just feel we’re a bit more vulnerable than other relegated teams, or at least more vulnerable than we thought.

I think basically any player (and we see O'Shea and Szmodics latest to be linked) would be very happy to, and will have agents working on their behalf, to make a jump into 'The 17'.

They won't be getting 40% pay cuts each season if they are there, and the jump from the purgatory clubs is as big as it is from the Champ clubs to the purgatory clubs.....

Yes, I guess that’s the aim. My feeling is only Omari, Davis and Tuanzebe fit comfortably in the 17, the other are more purgatory fodder.

I guess a 40% pay increase every couple of years and a chance to break into the 17 isn’t so bad. Lot of personal disruption, though.
