Reasons why McKenna shouldn’t go to Brentford on 15:27 - Jun 8 by Nutkins_Return | In all seriousness I would struggle to get excited to join Brentford with their new 17,500 seater stadium going from Portman road and fans and history we have. No disrespect to Brantford who have become a really good club and done exceptionally well to stabilise as a Prem club but just can't see them staying a Prem club for years. They don't have the size or fanbase. We're a bigger club with a big following and I'd hope he would back himself to take us ahead of Brentford. Wouldn't blame him if he goes though. Right now in pure football squad terms they are ahead. |
Does fanbase or size really make any difference any more? I mean, when you're looking at the massive, worldwide fanbases of United and the like, sure, it brings in multi-million pound sponsorship deals and merch money from all over the planet. But being able to get nearly 30,000 fans in the stadium on a Saturday compared to 17,500 fans makes no noticeable difference to your income. Truth is, the longer they stay in the Premier League, the longer they'll stay in the Premier League. Not saying that in a facetious way, but every season they stay up there makes them another light year ahead of us in terms of revenue. That's why it's becoming a closed shop. The only way to stay in the Prem is to have spent years there already. We're hoping for a slow build over the next 5 or so years, or a freak year when an established team is so bad (or gets docked points) that we're able to stay up and reap the benefits. | |
