You go UP to London and down to anywhere else. From Ipswich, the capital of East Anglia you go down to anywhere else in the region.


Bury St Edmunds probably has the best historical claim to be the capital of East Anglia.

Or Sutton Hoo.

Both burial places of Kings (definitely Edmund, probably Raedwald, respectively).

The best Norfolk can offer in that regard is that apparently the Royals have a holiday cottage near Hunstanton.

But definitely not Norwich.

Thetford is the birthplace of Thomas Paine, had a hand in writing the post revolution constitutions of both France and the United States. And it used to be in Suffolk.
