McKenna wants promotion! 07:44 - Aug 9 with 1857 viewsstiff_talking

What an outstanding interview from McKenna after tonight’s game ! He came across clear and refreshed with words and vision. Normal mortals would struggle to convey themselves through emotion so concisely. It was an interview that stood out to me and emphasized that McKenna has grown as a coach. It wasn’t a happy interview but the words he used summed it up perfectly. The disappointment was written all over his face.

Last year McKenna stuck to his principals and if we had a squad good enough to play his system we would not have gone down. McKenna standards must be met to keep him. The owners have to see what they have as a manager and back him now. They have two weeks left to get it right. COYB owners !

Football player recruitment is about who you know. Have they heard of you?

Ashley Young, quality, worked with McKenna before. But 40 years old.

We just can't attract the type of player McKenna wants. Have to find a way before the window closes

Let's hope he does get the players in that he wants before the window closes. Fingers crossed. But it's been an odd transfer window so far. We've allowed players to go that we should have kept eg Axel, Sam. We've only spent serious money on one player, the rest loans or free. And there's that '£100m plus' of player sales from the Brett J email that makes me think that currently it's all mainly about getting the financials sorted to attract new investors allowing the current ones to take some/all of their gains rather than build a strong enough squad to get back to the Prem.

Small correction, we didn't let Axel go. He was out of contract and reports are we tried very hard to keep him with our offer but he wanted PL football and I think more crucially he wanted to move further North closer to his family so Burnley worked well for multiple reasons.

If there is another financial agenda we don't know about it but the update post those emails I thought was very much around getting investment and investing in the team to be a stable PL team.

I'd heard Axel was open to staying if the offer was right though no doubt as you say other factors were in the mix. Don't suppose we'll ever really know. We'll see if the club means business over the coming couple of weeks.

Depends what the right offer is in his eyes. Probably more than a Champ side could afford on a player with an injury history. I think we will have pushed to the upper end of affordability as we know how good he is. Like you say we will never know the truth on it and what deal he got at Burnley like a signing on fee as he was on a free.

Yeah 100% might be difficult as always in getting the targets we want. If I was Ipswich - I would definitely be looking at Delap on loan.. the lad is looking a bench warmer.

Axel was one of the biggest wage earners at the club.
