Billy Sharp’s Guide to Promotion 08:03 - Aug 21 with 1026 views | Chris_ITFC | I was reading an interview with Billy Sharp. He’s been promoted 6 times, and these were his top tips. How are we doing?! 1. Togetherness - You’ll need a full squad. The back-ups need to be happy and onboard. 2. Momentum - It’s great to get early wins on the board and get the momentum rolling. 3. Prolific Striker - You need that 20 goal man, or be able to get 20 clean sheets instead. 4. Grind It Out - Can you muddle through in that tough winter period when others cave? 5. Don’t Panic - There will be wobbles and bad runs. It’s about sticking together. 6. Seize The Moment - In those crucial turning points, do you take your chances? 7. Enjoy It!

Yep we did have most of those, but we did have a manager who had talks with palace half way through the season, I know saying this will be unpopular but it didn’t sit well with me, but it’s history now & we need to find those things again

Reckon Ladapo & Chaplin both got 20 in the league 1 promotion season.

Yeah agreed on the togetherness! Chappers got 26 in L1! And pretty sure we’d have done the clean sheets in L1 too [Post edited 21 Aug 8:51]

We were also a bit rubbish over winter in both the promotion seasons so maybe just 5 out of 7

Chappers 26(!), Ladapo 17. I think it was 13 for Chappers and Broady in the Championship.

I don't know why people keep on about that. He had talks, but decided to stay with us - and is still here. Is it not good to know that what we have at Ipswich Town is considered a better option by a young, ambitious manager than Palace or Brighton? Is it not nice to have a manager who is in demand, rather than ones who get sacked after less than two years, then get no further top coaching positions, or only at a much lower level (Keane, Jewell, Lambert, Hurst, Cook)?

Spot on, to imagine a young talented manager wouldn't have offers that he needed to consider for his own future and development is very short sighted. The fact he chose to stay is credit to Town the team around him and the potential he could/can see. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
