Comics and magazines 14:58 - Aug 27 with 1103 views | BlacknGoldnBlue | Those of us that are a certain vintage would have been brought up on comics and magazines.. In an age before household internet it was often the only way to get in-depth news and entertainment and posters for bedroom walls or covering school books. Which comics or magazines did you read and why?

Comics and magazines on 20:52 - Aug 27 by WeWereZombies | I started off being fed 'Look and Learn' by Mum but rebelled and got into 'Eagle' before gravitating towards 'Valiant'. Always tried other comics though, the inevitable 'Beano' and 'Dandy', a flirtation with 'TV21' as 'Thunderbirds' and 'Stingray' etc. came on TV/ 'Buster', 'Beezer' and 'Whopper' featured if they were giving away freebies like those cardboard fold with paper glued into them that you flicked downwards to make a bang. When music took over it started with 'Melody Maker' but I found that staid after a while and became a 'New Musical Express' bore. I did notice that my friends who read 'Sounds' seemed happier though... Also had a thing for 'Man, Myth and Magic' for a while and when I discovered that you could get underground comics from Orwell Books I usually got hold of 'IT', 'Oz' and 'Frendz' as well as improving my musical tastes with 'Zigzag'. When I moved to London 'Time Out' got well used. |
I completely forgot about Melody Maker, NME and Sounds!! I got fed up with NME as it always slagged off whoever was my favourite musician at the time, and usually not for musical reasons, but just because they could.
