Thats how I would describe our squad from 2022 to 2024. Seemingly no bad eggs, great players, high skill and so likeable. From Donacian to Davis, Burns to Chaplin, Woolfie to Burgess and many more.
The last squad like this was Burleys team from around 1998 to 2001.
Similarities with both, took a little time to gel, absolutely unplayable for a couple of seasons, then a painful season and a very painful break up.
What Im trying to say is, when I watch the 2000 play off final I smile and feel proud they represented my club, it will be exactly the same when I look back at this lot.
But things move on and there is a massive difference this time. In 2002 after relegation we were quite frankly fu*ked, in 2025 we have a team full of talent, a thriving infrastructure and geniune hope.
Its better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.
Time to leave the past behind and move forwards.
Who knows, we might get to slightly like the new bunch (love is too bigger word).

Even when we signed Louis Barry and Rekeem Harper, I think there was a general acceptance that completely overhauling a squad was going to reveal the odd player who just didn't quite fit.
Same is true here, but due to the bigger expectations (and fees!) we've had to lean on some loan moves a bit more to mitigate the risk.
Not to mention League 1 is as mad as a box of frogs, playing in an ex-Prem stadium one week and an ex-National League the next.

I have been watching Town for the last 60 years. That B2B team was special not in a skillful way so much but because they were a team. They played as a team.
Everybody knew where everybody else was at any given time and worked for each other.
I have seen it at on other occasions too.
But there is no reason at all that the current squad will also not gel. But they need time to get it all together. |  | | |
