If McKenna is intent on keeping the same system that gained success with the previous 2 promotions then he needs to be ruthless with his selections in the starting 11.
Changing to accommodate Clarke and philogene isn’t the answer at the moment. Altho Clarke has started to grow into things a little more, our system doesn’t fit his natural style/position.
My thought is Akpom needs to play the Broadhead role, left side moving across to the left 10 when Davis goes forward. Now Chaplin has gone Nunez to play what becomes the second/right 10 role. Then the obvious Hutchinson replacement would be Egeli. Wide right cutting in on his left.
Attacking transition would give us the 4 then of Davis/Akpom/Nunez/Egeli. Behind potentially Azon.
The system hasnt been working with shoehorning Clarke and philogene in. Clarke needs to be wider before cutting in which means he gets in Davis’ way and loses the added second 10 broadhead gave us. Philogene hasn’t produced any end product at all, and then having them both start has vastly limited our attacking output.
Of the 2 Jack Clarke looks like he will come good, but their needs to be a specific game plan to suit his style of play when he is on. He seems more of an attacking change from the bench at the moment. |  | | |  |

I think we need to look at why we recruited players that don't suit our team style of play. That said to have £40m of Clarke/Philogene/Szmodics that we can't get the best of maybe means we need to change the way we play? | | | |

Akpom is a 10, he will rotate with Szmodics in the centre.
Hirst and Azon will play 9.
Nunez will predominantly have to play in the centre of midfield. Revolving with Cajuste, Humphreys, Taylor and Matusiwa. But given the number of midfieders we have this season it is likely we might see a three at times.
