I haven't read any more than the line appearing under the headline on the article but he doesn't have to agree to the abandonment. It was clear conditions were unplayable and the referee makes that call. No one is questioning that decision aside from many saying they had been unplayable for some considerable time beforehand.

As for awarding the 3 points, the precedent is to replay the match. If he honestly thinks the 3 points should be awarded, I wonder how he would feel if they are down to 10 men, a goal down and with 10 minutes plus injury time left and the opposition manager says to him, "let's shake hands now. We'll take this as the result, thanks."
