Interesting to hear the Bristol City manager reference our “200million squad” after the game. That’s an easy motivational point for anyone we play. And it is surreal to think we had, what, 75miilion worth of signings on the bench last night. (To be fair, the Pompey manager made a valid point saying we’d earned the right to have such a squad).
Anyway, an obvious point but those massive price tags bring with them expectations, fairly or unfairly, it makes everything different. In the carefree days of 23-24, if a 500k Harness or 750k Bunrs didn’t beat the first man with their cross, no big deal. Now when 12million players make the same mistake it feeds into an air of frustration and negative noise. Which then gets amplified on social media and on it goes.
Winning Sunday would of course create a different kind of noise. It’s time, boys, way past time. COYB. In McKenna we trust. |  |

Expensive squad and still the favourites to win the league, everyone is going to up their game against us.
Then as you say the expectations on the players and coaching staff will be huge and very hard to ignore for the majority of them. |  | | |

I think the same expectations applied in League 1 though, the level of angst going into Forest Green away after only drawing with Bolton was very high. Let alone the reaction by February 2023 after a bit of a stutter in results.
It's not that I disagree with your point about relative fees, and very few of our signings since promotion have yet demonstrated anything like the full value of what we paid for them but there's a little bit of a rush to write off some players which is going too far the other way. |  |

Most managers will use the expensive squad thing as a way to either deflect attention from a loss or to big-up a win or a draw for them.
Not sure whether other club players will particularly care about who they are playing as most players will by nature be highly competitive. |  | | |
