Replacing nearly a hundred years old rails to install reinforced ones to handle Sizewell C construction freight. Its a nightmare living out that way at the moment.

I remember walking along some of that track to Sizewell many years ago. Many of the sleepers were rotten then. But as the only trains were taking neuclear waste in a reinforced container at 15mph that was probably fine.
Now they are to take heavy building materials it is high time for an upgrade.

Whilst it's clearly going to be a pain for the next few weeks, there is at least a clear purpose to this work, a bit like with the new station near Chelmsford, which makes the inconvenience less annoying.

Certainly when compared to the endless bits of other engineering work on the main line.
