| Does anyone here count the black faces in adverts? on 22:50 - Oct 29 by DJR | A few observations. 1. Here is a link to a 2017 article in the advertising Campaign magazine which indicates that ads reflecting a more diverse Britain are a fairly recent thing and were met with hostility in the online comments sections of the rightwing media. https://www.campaignlive.co.uk/article/race-discourse-advertising-uk-problem/144 2. Many of the current adverts depict multiracial couples and so would appear to reflect the sort of cultural coherence that I thought many on the right are striving for. 3. There appears to be a bit of a misunderstanding of advertising. If advertisers think that appealing to a more diverse audience is a good thing, then expecting ads to reflect the make-up of society would mean that only 3% of ads could depict a black person, which in turn would mean that, say, only one of the big advertisers at Christmas could do so. 4. Will the highlighting of this issue lead to a backlash against it in the advertising industry? [Post edited 29 Oct 23:04]

the statistics on representation are pretty pointless anyway - most ads don't have one person in them, so you can have black people in the majority of ads and white people could still be in every ad anyway! | |
