| McKenna has pulled out of today's presser on 15:16 - Oct 30 by ArnieM | Ok, I will confess I hadn’t seen that ( you’ve listed above). It’s not been that apparent to me when I’ve been at PR or watched us on tv for some of the away games. I will look more closely 8n future. All I do see repeated is walking the ball out from defence and inviting opponents onto us to try and create that space in the second phase . But we all too often cause our own problems from that because we get caught out. I have seen the more longer balls forward from defence ( “ worst defender ever” O’Shea, is particularly good at that long ball), over recent games this is true, and I welcome that variation. Sometimes you just have to mix it up, but by and large I think we are slow bringing out of defence, and we always, once we regain possession of the ball, always look to pass it back to the CB’s to build from the back again. It was quite noticeable ( to me), that Walton was often trying to get the ball out quickly in his last 2 recent games , and yet no Town player was ever looking for that quick punt up the pitch or throw out. Because it’s not coached. KMcK, is predictable in his substitutions, even down to the minute he will bring them on. And it’s alway like for like, never a change of tactic, even when we are not creating anything with the approach we’ve adopted the whole game. I would also question his willingness to play players in their optimal positions. It will be interesting to see if he continues with Nunez in the #10 role. Why did he never / rarely play Chaplin in his obviously best role more frequently , when we couldn’t create anything up front.? I’m a big Hirst fan,( his game is more than just scoring goals), but why hasn’t he tried Azon when it’s clear Hirst is struggling for some reason, or started the last two games with the finishing forward line from games prior to that, when they have appeared far more mobile, aggressive and with pace and more of a goal threat? Why does he make almost complete team changes? Far too many every game, and that for me is why continuity is lacking. At some point surely he has to stick with the majority of the team for a few games to allow that understanding to develop . These are only my observations. They may not be right, but I don’t think I’m the only one questioning his approach now. Our form this season was always going to be affected by a near complete squad overhaul, again, granted not all of his making. But the overhaul following promotion to the PL, was it really needed to that level, and so ruthless? Our squad for the PL season was so lacking in overall experience, which he essentially just benched or left out completely. Little wonder so many chose to leave. If he does decide to leave I will wish him well and good luck, but we have this every season since he’s joined us, and I’m personally cheesed off with it now. If he’s going to go, just go, so we can move on and get another manager in. The club really is bigger than any individual, and that includes Ashton. |
So he needs to make changes but not too many changes and needs to make subs that are less obvious even though our subs often come on and make crucial contributions? Interesting that you've decided Nunez's best position is playing as a 10 based on a 35 minute appearance in that role when he's played pretty much his entire career as a conventional CM. And Chappers only ever played in his best role for us, so not sure what point you are making there? He could have played more and I'd have kept him this season but when we have used him it's always been as a 10 where he's most effective for us.

I had a read of the owner's Wikipedia page a couple of nights ago: 'Desmond was appointed chairman of the board of Aer Rianta in 1990 under the Charles Haughey government, but resigned in October 1991 amid the scandal over the purchase of the Johnston Mooney & O'Brien site by Telecom Éireann.' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Now I used to be managed by a Cork man who had worked in Haughey's office for a few months after he (my manager) qualified as a Certified Accountant. He had an opinion on that Taoisaech and I will say no more... [Post edited 30 Oct 2025 18:23]

Yer, Desmond seems about as popular with Celtic fans as Evans was back in the day. Desmond, Haughey and Bertie I don't have a bank account Ahern all serious chancers. Who bizarrely still loved by a portion of Irish society for being said chancers
