| Techy cloud advice. 20:19 - Nov 2 with 2055 views | BanksterDebtSlave | Apparently Junior's cloud is full, something to do with 16,000 photos. Apparently my offer of a couple of photos albums doesn't cut it so any advice on a solution that frees up her cloud while maintaining easy access to her pictures and stuff would be appreciated. I'm not even sure what this means but surely some of you techy young folk will understand. Thanks. | |

Yeah but the environment!

Cloud computing isn't that bad for the environment, the alternative is everyone doing their own thing rather than using shared infrastructure. On topic though, really your choices are: 1. Pay for more storage as others have suggested 2. Buy a physical drive, backup old photos onto that and delete them from the cloud. There are ways to run your own "cloud" locally but it generally requires a decent amount of expertise.

I know nothing of the environmental impact of ICloud. Is it greater than other solutions? [Post edited 3 Nov 2025 10:27]

Prime do have family accounts with separate log ins, so, should she not want other users of the family account to see all her photos, that may be the most economical solution over all. If you boycott Amazon, then it doesn't help you, obviously... But if you boycott Amazon, you might struggle to find a cost-effective cloud storage solution from a supplier with impeccable ethical credentials!
