Farage’s press conference going well on 23:04 - Dec 4 by ElderGrizzly

It’s like Trump with his “I could shoot someone on 5th avenue and they’d still elect me” statement

For Farage’s cult and a bizarrely increasingly vocal section of the media, they’ll still defend him or find a way to ignore the obvious

And Reform have to back him to the death, as without Farage there is no Reform.

People seem to treat political parties like football teams. No matter how sh*t they are they still support them. It's mad.

In relation to Emma Barnett, I wonder if Farage's use of the term "lower-grade", as in the phrase lower-grade journalist, is a new euphemism for "Jewish". Indeed, you might think he would tread with a bit more caution following an interview with a Jewish journalist.

But leaving that aside, the following letter to Farage from Holocaust survivors, quoted in the Guardian, is pretty powerful.

“As Holocaust survivors, we understand the danger of hateful words – because we have seen where such words lead.

Let us be clear: praising Hitler, mocking gas chambers, or hurling racist abuse is not banter. Not in a playground. Not anywhere.

When allegations arise about invoking Nazi attitudes toward Jewish children, the responsible response is honesty, reflection, and commitment to truth.

So we ask you: did you say ‘Hitler was right’ and ‘gas them,’ mimicking gas chambers? Did you subject your classmates to antisemitic abuse?”

The survivors include Hedi Argent, who lost 27 members of her family in the Holocaust. Another member of the group, Simon Winston, was held in a ghetto before escaping in September 1942 and spending the rest of the war in hiding.

Another signatory is Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, who was sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau where she spent nearly a year. In October 1944, she was moved to Bergen-Belsen, where she was liberated by the British in April 1945.

The eight others are Janine Webber, Edith Jayne, Helen Aronson, Ruth Barnett, John Fieldsend, Susan Pollack, Hanneke Dye and Agnes Kaposi.

EDIT: Among other things, Farage is alleged to have used the word "P*k* in relation to one pupil. I discovered in RE lessons in the 70s (and I am older than Farage) that that expression was used in a racist way.

And whilst attitudes in those days were far from perfect, how many on here of that vintage would aim racist abuse at people they knew?

Farage's turning fire on the BBC has gone down a storm on the comments section of the Mailonline.

It's all very clever and calculated.

One thing I've never got about Farage is his supposed bonhomie.

In my view, he comes across as charmless and, to quote Billy Bragg, is "the sort that only laughs at his own jokes".

He also comes across as very thin-skinned, and reacts badly when subject to journalistic scrutiny: the interview with Beth Rigby a month or so ago spring to mind. Putting it another way, I am not sure he is suited to the greater scrutiny that the role of PM would entail, and as I've said before, I am not convinced he really wants to be PM.

He's terrible under any kind of scrutiny at all, which is so frustrating has it doesn't happen nearly enough.

"That was the old days before racism was bad" is a pathetic defence, David Brent-esque.

The lure of high office is just too much for the talentless and terminally deluded to resist...

The motorcade of Range Rovers with police outriders to stop everyone in your path, teams of secretaries and lackeys to cosset and flatter you....

Govenment stately home at your disposal, all filled with freebies galore

The chance to mix and mingle with the World's top tier, all those Kings and Presidents...

And the opportunities for grift, wealth beyond your wildest imagination if you are shameless enough to milk it

It would make Brussels on MEP Expenses seem like a trip to Greggs

And then, when to leave this gilded existence, an eye-watering sinecure until your dying day plopped into your bank account first working day of the month

It would require a level of self-denial to refuse all that

Of course, there is the slight expectation that you would actually have to get out of bed each morning and apply yourself to a bit of work..... but Fartage has managed to sail through life without doing a single stroke of anything worthwhile, so he has sufficient experience to breeze through being PM while acheiving literally nothing worthwhile

Cast your mind back over the holders of the keys of No 10 since Brown, G departed....

The venal, the terminally stupid, the self-serving, the deluded and the bone-idle

Oh, and the Lactuca-esque

All of them deeply flawed and utterly unfit to hold senior office

I fear the worst

This is the case on here with Labour, how anyone can still think they were the answer to all the countries issues is beyond me. Reform will get in just because of how bad the Tory's were and then the current lot have done the impossible and been even worse!!

People have had enough and the more they go after him the more they will prosper as was the case with Trump. The UK always mirrors the US in so many things and this will be the next.

I'd say that Labour gets as much, if not more criticism on here from those on the left than it does anybody else.
