The importance of scoring the first goal 19:44 - Dec 6 with 192 viewsDubtractor

Time and again this season we see the team who score first able to control the game, and it was very much the case again today.

Fairly even first half, not much in it, very little goalmouth action, and a nervous crowd. Game could go either way at that point.

But the goal before half time meant that Coventry had to take more risks, with a higher defensive line, and space behind them in various areas. Lo and behold we start playing the football we all want to see from us, and looked dangerous on the transition time after time.

That was a really good defensive performance from us too, limiting a free scoring team to shots from outside the box and set pieces really.

We need to follow it with more of the same though.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

McKenna has the right plan on paper for facing teams at PR go hell and leather at teams to score early then manage the game from there. But too often we are not scoring during our good start while the away team are still easing themself into the game and then we end up facing a defensive wall rest of the game

Really good to see the shoe on the other foot today.
