From the opening to my favourite ever film but more haunting than banging.

It really is an audio-visual feast and best seen in a cinema, probably difficult these days.

This critique is great, and I really like touches like the "car chase" ending up with the chased moped driving down the metro.

"The movie is filled with so many small character touches, so many perfectly observed intimacies, so many visual inventions—from the sly to the grand—that the thriller plot is just a bonus. In a way, it doesn't really matter what this movie is about; Pauline Kael has compared Beineix to Orson Welles and, as Welles so often did, he has made a movie that is a feast to look at, regardless of its subject. [...] Here is a director taking audacious chances, doing wild and unpredictable things with his camera and actors, just to celebrate moviemaking."

Having said this, I went into the movie when it was first shown in the UK with no expectations, so maybe my bigging it up will only lead to disappointment on your part.

I'd forgotten all about this which I used to play to death at free festivals. Crank up the volume!

I saw this film when it came out. I didn’t want to go. But not only was the film good, but the opening sequence truly iconic.

It’s 48 years to the day since it was first shown.

Edit: they used Bee Gees Stayin Alive at the 2012 opening ceremony when the U.K. team came out. It was a banger of a song in 1977, 2012 and now

If we're going down that route.

The Boston Globe said: "It has the look of Grease and the soul of Animal House—and it's better than both. The anarchic rock of The Ramones electrifies the film with a driving beat that never lets up. The film, like rock and roll, is just plain fun."

And here's a clip from the film with the Ramones.
