I've always wondered if his surname was always pronounced wrong. People often pronounce it Rhia when I reckon it should be pronounced Ray. Known a few Rea's over the years and they were always Rays.

Maybe he pronounced it that way to differentiate himself from Chris Rea, the Scottish rugby player and BBC commentator.
