| U21's last night - fun times & Boniface 10:30 - Dec 23 with 888 views | stringy | Thoroughly enjoyed the U21's last night, don't get back to see the Town that often so a bonus free Monday night game under the lights w/ the return of Burns was a real treat. We were very good, completely in control most of the game, lots of assured passing across the back, patience but then dynamism driving forward from midfield when space was made available (a system that does tend to mean the centre forward sees precious little of the ball as usually went to wings, then cut inside to shoot). Button the goalie was a sweeper most of the game, terrifyingly far forward. Great to see Burns, nice goals from Baggott and Humphreys, Pitts looked sharp but Boniface was the one that excited me. Fast, direct, popped up all over the shop - decent back up for Leif? | | | | |

Yes Boniface looks very useful Thought Burns looked good Still got his pace, tracked back, got forward, willing to have ago, and puts in a cracking cross,up against a decent full back as well. He may well be on the bench next game, hope so.

we were very patient/smart in terms of defenders holding the ball to draw in the opposition player which then created space for others; first half Charlton got sucked in every time, so very effective. It looked just like what we are trying to do with the first team I guess, but maybe against an easier opposition (but also seems we're very good at it given we're top of U21 league).

Presumably the players gave those watching confidence that we weren’t going to foul up. Hopefully we will get a chance to see Humphreys, Baggott & H Clarke against Blackpool.

I wasn't having kittens like I do at times when I see the first team do it

They played very much the same as the first team, but Charlton were very open. A game is defined both by how you play, and how the opposite set up against you. Last night saw : - as some call it, tippy tappy football at the back - playing the ball backwards when deemed best - nearly getting caught out at the back when the odd mistake was made - some nice play in transition, when the opportunity presented itself (more last night than we normally see in a senior game) A good game to watch, but difficult to read too much into it, given the level of the opposition. My big take away - Burns looks good, with no obvious loss of pace. He deserved to get something last night.
