Honestly, thought that was alright today... 22:37 - Jan 1 with 769 viewsFunge

... particularly in the context of some reasonably underwhelming performances, against other teams low in the table.

Matu is some player - relentless running, constantly looking for the ball, in and around everything good we did today. Anyone looking to take POTS off him will either have to score 25 goals or put the budgies into admin.

That's the best I've seen Cajuste play for a while too - when he's involved like that, he's formidable. Wasn't consistent throughout, and can't go for a full 90, like Matu, but yeah, not bad all told.

Akpom not perfect up front, but had presence - lovely touch for his goal. His decision making not all that, but at least he;s in positions where he can make the decisions in question.

Not Egeli's best game, at all, although he was involved in the move for the Akpom goal. Furlong was excellent there, by the way.

Oxford learnt the hard way that if you give Philo any space at all, it ends badly for you. Nunez growing into the No. 10 role by the game.

Their goal was annoying, and O'Shea really needs to stop letting the ball bounce - but defensively we were good enough.

Crowd quiet, but then I can't remember a New Years game, ever, when it has been different.

Signs here that, at long last, we are getting to grips with the low block from away teams at PR. A relatively early goal obviously helps with that.

Best I've felt about this team in a while, but still a lot of work to do.

I agree pretty much with all your summary.

I’ve not seen it back yet, but I think we let them in while trying to play out again (Davis?). Either way, the team came back from that quickly and there was no fortune in that. Just grit.

We should have been out of sight at HT, but sport is not FM26. And that’s why particularly football (who 12 month ago would have thought Sunderland would ravage Man City as they did tonight) is so engaging.

Yes, we are beginning to get a grip of the low block. I always thought we’d improve second half of the season as it follows McKenna’s pattern with his previous team and I still hold by that.

Quite happy to take what was ultimately a scruffy win. Thought we played some great football in the first half.

Today was all about getting the 3 points, which we did. Cajuste and Matusiwa were very good, especially the latter, unsurprisingly.

We move on to another game that on paper we should win.

I thought we lost it a bit with the subs - Clarke in the 10 offered nothing and Burns looked a long way off - and there was a constant feeling that Oxford could nick another goal whilst we only had a narrow lead.

We were fairly comfortable though, think another goal early in the second half and everyone would have totally relaxed but it's the Championship and most teams are capable of having their moments.

If we can go and win on Sunday now then that makes for a very good few weeks.
