As I say, their team selection must be down to politics.

Ha. On a serious note, there was an interesting interview with Woolfenden from October, looking at the dates after the politics comment. Very civilised, no dig at us back, wanted Coventry up first and us second. But he did speak about not playing there. https://www.google.com/amp/s/w Think what stands out to me is him saying he understands why he's on the bench because the starters are doing well. And, if we really want to take a potshot for the thousandth time for whatever reason, that's probably what upset him here. He started last season well - I think most of his detractors would acknowledge that - but was then dropped.

A bit of a cheap shot by me at a player who did so much good and gave so many great memories. I’d take his comments in that article with a pinch of salt. I’m sure he gave the “right” answers to journalists throughout his time here. I just felt that comment was completely unnecessary and put some unwanted attention on a manager who’d done so much for him. If he’d said that he was frustrated that after two promotions he was replaced for players he felt he was equal to or better than then I’d have said fair enough. The comment made was snidey though and said to create problems. Probably time to let it go and move on. I only noticed it because he played against us on Monday and I’m watching their game now. , I don’t follow him closely since he left.

His replacements today have also gone on to concede at least 3 goals to a really poor Birmingham side....

Taking a step back the "politics" comment, to me, should put more pressure on Ashton than McKenna as it insinuates there was pressure elsewhere over team selection. But that's reading between the lines and I agree he shouldn't have made it in the first place. Considering he's seemingly still in contact with a few of the Town players, I wouldn't be surprised if one or more issued a rebuke, hence the more PC interview published a week later. From comments made by Lambert, Cook and McKenna he's someone who tends to bottle up his emotions and present as laid back most of the time. But when he explodes he does it without thinking. Also see his retort to Don Goodman during the promotion celebrations.
