Baggott wouldn't be here if we had got a CB over the line in August or blocked Woolf moving, he'd already be gone in some capacity. I think we generally try to do what's right by player and club but also need to be a little bit selfish about it at times, we kept him as 4th choice, in reality if it came to it I'd still expect Furlong to start ahead of him. He's 23 now, he's here because it was a very easy solution. It might not be right for him but we couldn't leave ourselves short. There's no way he has a long term career at Ipswich, I just don't see it.
Humphreys is closer, was closer, I would imagine it was a bit of a toss up in the summer to loan him out but can see why we didn't as we clearly didn't land the big fish we wanted in CM. He's another who we clearly don't see as close enough though. We always feel disappointed when academy products don't break through but how many have moved on to bite us on the arse? We've generally either got good money for them of they've found their levels lower that we are and aspire to be. I think his loan spell at Wycombe suggests he's capable at Championship level. There aren't many (then) 20 / 21 year olds being pretty much ever presents in CM in L1 and winning Young player of the season for a side finishing 5th. |
With Humphreys, I think we have progressed too quickly for him and we are probably now at the value maximisation stage. We could probably have sold him in the summer but what would we realistically have got for him? I am guessing we hope he has another really good L1 loan spell and we can get him a good Championship loan next year where he can showcase his ability and increase his value.
I imagine Baggott will probably end up leaving for a very nominal fee within the next 6 months. |  | | |

I guess the hope is Huddersfield go up and CH impresses there and they look to make it perm. In some respects there's probably as much chance of them being in the Championship next season as Oxford. |  | | |
