Transfer Strategy v Reality 11:21 - Jan 25 with 2691 viewsLA_Tractor_Boy

I'm pretty sure Ashton said in the summer the club wanted to sign players with pace, power, athleticism etc. who could make the step up to the PL.

Looking at our current squad, of our 8 permanent signings IMO only Matusiwa and Egeli fall into this category.

It appears to me that strategy has now shifted to 'we'll worry about the PL if/when we get there'. I wonder if Hackney rejecting us in the summer caused that shift.

I think a huge part of the thinking is and was based on where we would be. It does seem that this time around the chances of promotion are maybe less than they were a couple of seasons ago. We don't look like we are going to go on a massive run of wins and we are aware that there are at least two areas that need serious attention but have been knocked back by several clubs/players who either wish to remain in the Prem despite not getting regular football or play for a team with the same aspirations as us and they believe that their chances are at least equal, if not better than ours.
It is a balancing act where we go for it in a big way, with no guarantee, do we stick, or do we get in players like Bamford that wouldn't in my opinion be good enough for the Premier League ?
