I can understand it leading to a penalty from a goal-bound shot but accidental means there is no intent from the player and yet he gets penalised with a yellow card.
Until the recent law change that would have been a red card. Going further back handball would have had to be intentional in the first place to be given.
But yes. they have made a massive mess of the handball rules. And that is absurd.
I can see the logic of it preventing the goal leading to the penalty. I can understand why that is contentious too. I can see the professional foul rule leading to a yellow card/red card outside the area. However, it has led to the anomaly of an accidental offence leading to a yellow card. That is wrong should see a change to the rules that an accidental handball is not a disciplinary offence at all (i.e. no yellow or red card).
Assume you mean the Palace v Chelsea one? Absolutely atrocious officiating. They spent so long looking for an angle or a freeze-frame that would allow them to give it. His arm was by his side and it his his chest at the same time. There was absolutely nothing he could have done to avoid it.

I think it's both tbh. If you have to look that many times to find an excuse to give it then it's not overturning a clear and obvious error.
VAR is rubbish. There was no need for it to take that long but that is typical of it too. They are determined to get it absolutely right so to check every detail ... and still don't improve the outcomes.
