We are Leeds and everyone needs to take a chill pill… 06:40 - Feb 1 with 763 viewsIPS_wich

It’s always fun to come onto the next day after a game where we’ve fallen short. It’s like half the people on here have somehow forgotten the 2007-2021 period of our history.

As for my subject header, the more this season goes on the more it’s apparent we’re tracking very similar to Leeds from two seasons ago. Raging favourites at the start of the season, best squad in the league by miles, have a slow start and then around November hit a good run of form before stumbling a bit trying to reel the two runaway leaders in.

The question is do Cov and Boro have what it takes to keep piling on the wins like Leicester and we did. It looks like Boro are up for it but Cov maybe not.

And just like Leeds did, we’re struggling to break down teams that stick ten men behind the ball - but when a team takes you on (like we did two seasons ago) you get the chance to show just how good you are (they were clearly much better than us).

Hopefully there’s a different outcome to that which Leeds had, but even though they missed out they went on to pi$$ the league the next season.

One other random reflection - no team has ever shown the ability to constantly break down a low block, but it strikes me having players on either flank (Jaden and Clarke on left; Egeli on right) who naturally want to come inside adds to the congestion and really plays into the hands of the low block teams.

Aren't Coventry more like Leeds. ie falling apart.

Not sure your analogy or comparison makes much sense.... just trying to write a script that fits some kind of positivity, I guess.

No one knows what's going to happen and that can make it a little more interesting.

And I would rather be a Town fan than a Coventry fan as they must feel like they were promoted 3 months ago... and that's been taken away from them. We had a 4 game winning run and were puffing out our chests before we came down to earth... they had months of that.

Leeds didn’t really make it into the top two but that didn’t stop the falling apart jokes.

Sure - happy to accept it’s a contrived positive comparison, but the fact stands that Leeds were the best squad by a mile two years ago and on their day could tear a team to pieces - like they did to us twice and like we’ve done to Cov twice.

It just bemuses me that fans are being so melodramatic when we’re four points off top (if we win our game in hand) - given the absolute garbage that was served up for 15 years before mckenna.

The majority of teams are playing the most negative tactics against us home and away and there’s no miracle tactic to break a low block.

It will be fascinating against Wrexham - their line up and tactics at Portman Rd were probably the most negative we’ve seen all season but their tails are up and at home I suspect they will play a much more open game - I hope so because I think we’ll smash them.

Are they being melodramatic? Some are, but many are just reacting to an under-par performance. Or they're commenting on a longterm problem ie breaking down a team that puts men behind the ball. Is that being melodramatic?

Personally, I'll take a play-off spot if we have to. Maybe we'll fall short of that. But let's be honest.... this season there seems to be more points dropped at the top and I think the reason we're still in the mix is because the standard has dropped rather than us being good. Maybe that's a good thing, because I think we might have a couple of gears we can go up. Don't think we should pretend we're a really good side, though. We've relied very heavily on individuals like Philogene and Clarke and other sides dropping points.

Given Leeds finished 3rd and then lost in the playoffs this doesn't feel particularly reassuring.

Also Leeds got 90 points in a high quality league and Town will not be remotely close to that total in a league with no outstanding teans

Poll: What rating out of 10 do you give to Ipswichs season up to this point?
