Ken Weetch MP RIP 21:09 - Feb 6 with 567 viewsDJR

Sad to hear of the passing of Ken Weetch, Labour MP for Ipswich from 1974-1987.

I think it was from 1983 - 1987 that Ipswich had the only Labour MP outside London below a line from the Severn to the Wash.

Met him once but only briefly and not under the best of circumstances as he had just lost his seat but be was candid. He must have been an excellent constituency politician to have been praised by arch Tory Eldon Griffiths.

I used to live near him, fancied one of his daughters, though IIRC she was a few years older than me... hang on! Probably a similar age difference between my wife & I (she's older than me, but looks younger)

Preceded as MP for Ipswich by a TWTD poster's father

I did some canvassing for him in one election. Even people who said they wouldn't vote for him were slightly apologetic. He seemed to me to be a man of principle who had the interests of Ipswich, rather than himself, at heart.
