Ian Watkins got 30 years and these crimes are not too dissimilar. Doesn't make sense.

You should read the judges comments that are always published afterwards. That will discuss the sentence range available, and what factors were considered.

It depends on when the guilty plea was entered. The earlier it is, the more weight it is given.
