| Akpom as No 9? on 01:12 - Feb 18 by FoghornGleghorn | It's all a bit weird, this, the strikers getting it in the neck so much when our left wing has contributed 22 goals so far (which I think maybe gets overlooked a little as it's split between two players who aren't on the pitch at the same time, but our left wing tag-team is leading the scoring charts by a mile) and is well set for 30+ by the time the season's out. That doesn't point to anything much being wrong with the setup of our attack, it's just balanced differently to other teams. Boot on the other foot, I can't imagine many fans of teams whose no.9 finishes on 30+ goals in a season moaning too much if their left winger didn't score many. Rather than "the main role of our striker isn't scoring goals", the truth of it is more that we don't rely on their goals. That said, the number of missed chances is bloody annoying. I'd argue it's a good job Clarke and Philogene have scored so many goals because we've struggled a bit to get them elsewhere. And a lot of Philogene's goals have been worldies more than a function of the system or the type of striker we have leading the line. 8 goals between Hirst and Azon - our two strikers. Between Burns, McAteer, Egeli, Nunez, Akpom we have 7 goals. We need more here. Hopefully Mehmeti can score a few. Burns, Hutchinson, Chaplin, Broadhead, Harness, Sarmiento scored 50 between them in 23/24. Between Cajuste, Taylor, Matusiwa we have 1 goal. Morsy, Taylor, Luongo scored 10 between them in 23/24.
