“If the RMT are to call a strike on this issue, 14:17 - Feb 27 with 727 viewsgiant_stow

it will be the first time in history that a trade union has asked its members to strike to stop workers having a shorter working week with more time off for no loss of pay!”

Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

Maybe someone can explain here, but I don't see why they'd be upset about the introduction of a voluntary scheme.

It's an interesting one, and I can see both sides.

A four-day working week sounds good in principle, but I can see how it might be less than appealing to those doing shift work, rather than a regular 0900-1700/0800-1800 schedule.

I'm not au fait with the proposals as a whole, but the blurb from the RMT seems to hint at TFL perhaps trying to sneak in other changes alongside the headline proposition:

An RMT newsletter from last year also gives some interesting insight:

I can certainly agree with their argument that this may be the thin end of the wedge, and that four-day working may not remain voluntary for long.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

I think they just like striking and showing their power.

Surely this is up to the members affected, and the following from the article suggests majority support.

"A total of 1,082 RMT Tube drivers voted in favour of strike action, with 101 voting against – meaning 91 per cent of members who voted supported a walkout.

A slightly higher number – 1,113 – backed action short of a strike. A total of 1,801 RMT members were entitled to take part in the ballot, meaning that 60 per cent of all members backed taking strike action."

"In contrast, 1,107 Aslef members out of 1,585 who took part in its ballot on the four-day week voted yes – almost 70 per cent in favour."

What could explain the difference between the two unions' stances?

Ed Dempsey?

Seriously, I've got no idea but Copilot stated that Aslef are more prone to strike than the RMT. I couldn't find anything to back this up, and it seems counter-intuitive given Dempsey's predecessors at the RMT include Bob Crow and Mick Lynch.
