In the reverse fixture that season Town won 2-0. It was on 20th September 1980.
I remember this well because it was my wedding day and I took a lot of stick from my family.
Half way through the service I turned around and my brother, who had a radio to his ear, gave me the thumbs up so I knew we were winning.

It's still inconceivable to me that we "only" came away with the UEFA cup that season.
Even Motty mentions the treble in his commentary.
He then goes on to say later that we had 4 games in 12 days.
Injuries to our small squad cost us so dearly that season.
So near, but yet........

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

At our absolute peak.

From early 1980 till March 1981 we were the best team around, probably the best in Europe.

Then, injuries and exhaustion, combined with a small squad, meant we ran out of steam.

Yup, I always say it was the wrong 42 games! Second half of 79-80, first half of 80-81, untouchable. Calendar year of 1980!
I mark the Spurs home game as the peak, a 3-0 win, days after seeing off Forest in a replay, and days before finishing off St Etienne. Perryman did Mills with a terrible tackle, Mariner skippering on the Wednesday, then the fatigue and injuries started to cut in.

At one point that year we had 7 games in 15days.
Sat, Tue, Thurs, Sat, Tues, Thurs, Sat.
Two of them semi-finals.
With a 15 man squad.
They dont make 'em like that any more.
