So why has fuel at the pumps gone by up, somtimes, nearly 30p per litre, seemingly overnight, when the oil in the petrol station tanks, tankers and oil depots around the UK were bought at a vastly lower price per barrel. Some weeks/ months ago?

Aren't they meant to be changing how electricity prices are set soon?

You are correct. There are/were plans in the UK to try and decouple renewables pricing from this so that we could actually benefit from cheaper renewable power (solar and onshore wind) but I’m not sure where those plans are currently. Used to cover renewables for work but haven’t for several years now.
