Lebanese healthcare workers and officials say Israeli bombings have deliberately targeted medical workers and facilities in south Lebanon, including through the use of double-tap strikes, in what they describe as a systematic effort to make the area unlivable.

It’s pretty perverse that we (the UK) have acknowledged the humanitarian issues in Lebanon yet seemingly offered no condemnation:

A nation which hasn’t attacked anybody. Hezbollah are effectively an occupying force, the Lebanese army haven’t been able to comply with resolutions to disarm them, they need international help (which doesn’t involve bombing the country!)

We have though condemned Hezbollah but we haven't expressly condemned Israel for its attacks in Lebanon . This follows the pattern in relation to Gaza where we effectively give Israel free rein.

https://www.gov.uk/government/

"Hezbollah’s attacks on Israel and the targeting of civilians must cease and they must disarm. We condemn Hezbollah’s decision to join Iran in hostilities, which further jeopardises regional peace and security.

We condemn attacks directed at civilians, civilian infrastructure, health workers and infrastructure, as well as the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. These actions are unacceptable, and we call on all parties to act in accordance with international humanitarian law."

Nor have we expressly condemned Israel or the US for breaching international in relation to the initial attack on Iran.

In much of the rest of the World, this is regarded as Western double standards because we can call out Russia but use weasel words when it comes to our allies.

Not only that but the US and Israel have engineered the ending of the UN peacekeeping forces presence in the country.

Here's a follow up.

https://www.theguardian.com/co

"Israel has crushed Unrwa in Gaza – and the rest of the world has done nothing

I bow out of my role for the organisation at a perilous time for the international law. There are consequences not just for Palestinians, but the wider Middle East"

"The UN was established to “save succeeding generations from the scourge of war”. Today, as we look at the human suffering in Palestine, Israel and beyond, achieving the goals of the UN charter requires moral clarity and principled leadership.

The abject failure to muster an effective multilateral and international law-based response in Gaza enabled a war outside international legal boundaries – one that is now spreading across and beyond the Middle East. This failure has normalised disdain for the rules-based international order.

Unrwa may soon cease to exist, with devastating consequences not only for millions of refugees but for regional peace and stability, and for the rights-based international framework that we have worked so hard to build. We must act – not belatedly, but now – to mobilise a broad coalition determined to uphold international law and to defend multilateralism."

And let's not forget the Board of Peace which is a clear attempt to usurp the United Nation and whose mandate has been expanded beyond Gaza to the whole of the World.
