Well, this stings even more 20:15 - Mar 26 with 1332 viewsThe_Major

So I just heard from my brother. You know, the father of my nephew. The one we're raising money for in the pinned post above. And thank you once again to those who have donated. It's so appreciated by all of us.

Anyway, I reprint his message below verbatim.

Let me tell you a story.

A couple of weeks ago, I contacted the club, stating how lve been going since the 80s, and had a season ticket since mid 90s. Told them about our fundraising for William, and linked the Just Giving page, so they could read it. I asked them if anything could be donated for the raffle on the Funday, and if it was possible for a player, someone from the club, even the mascots, to attend.

2 days later, I got an email stating they get lots of requests, which costs the Club money if they do anytjing, but if I meet the criteria, I can fill out a form with the chance of winning a signed pennant! One of the criteras was we had to be a registered charity! I replied explaining we obviously wasn't a registered charity, just a family fundraising for our son.

3 days later I got another email from someone else, saying they can give me a ticket for the "Player Departure Experience" after the Middlesbrough match and I can bring a shirt and try and get some players to sign it, as they leave and get on the coach!

So, I would have to buy the shirt, and hope some, if any, stop and sign a shirt being held by a nearly 50 year old bloke.

I was fairly peeved with this offer, but now I see the Club gave Farage 6 personalised shirts make it sting even more!

I would've expected those sorts of replies when Evans owned us, but I was honestly shocked at them being not interested, and it was me who said"if I buy a shirt, so there's no cost for the club, can you get the players to sign it."

Just said I could bring a shirt, which I would buy, and hope a player or 2 stopped and sign it as they get on the coach.

If one stopped, how many would walk past while they're doing it? I'd be lucky to get 2 or 3!

—--------------------

Now, I get that they probably get a lot of charity requests, and yes, they have to protect themselves. But, my brother sent them the link to the story the BBC did. In fact, they're currently talking to the BBC to try and arrange a crew to come and do a piece on them for Look East. And obviously the BBC wouldn't be doing that if they hadn't done their own research.

Plus, we weren't asking for a monetary donation. A signed shirt or a ball, something like that, which we can raffle off. With regards to perhaps a player or even Bluey pitching up at the Funday, we now know that wouldn't happen anyway probably, as it's taking place on the day of the play off final, which had not been confirmed at the time my brother sent his original email.

Bearing in mind that by that point, May 23, a shirt is only going to be worn a maximum of once more before it was replaced (if we were in the final), by that point, they're probably selling them for about £25 in the shop.

I appreciate if they do it for one charity, they've got to do it for all, and if the club hadn't gifted the shirts to Farage, then it wouldn't rankle so. Quite aside from anything else, it's perfectly feasible that Reform could raise funds with those shirts themselves, as what the flip is Farage going to do with half a dozen Town shirts?

So, yeah, I'm not impressed, and neither is the family. Almost makes one miss freshly painted turnstiles.

That's a stark contrast of club values you've revealed there.
In your position, I'd feel equally peeved.
The club have done a lot of good things under Ashton but given this week's events, you have to question how many of them are about being seen to be done. MA did an excellent podcast on community action (that being his starting point at WBA) when he joined us and I bought in. It feels a little hollow now.

Good luck to your family with the fundraising. That's what really matters here.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Just to say that the Player Departure Experience is very well done. The entire squad patiently works their way down the entire line signing everything and stopping for photos with everyone who wants them. So you would be guaranteed to fill a shirt up.

Don't want to detract from everything else you were saying but thought it may be worth noting.

Thanks Plums, much appreciated. Like I say, it rankles badly. If the whole Farage thing hadn't happened, we'd have probably just shrugged our shoulders and said "Oh well, that's business I guess", but....

Much obliged.

By the way, you wouldn't happen to be the same Ron Fearons Hair who posted on the Danny Baker Internet Treehouse back in the day? (I was KevS there)

I don't remember ever using the name elsewhere but I did used to frequent the site (for sore eyes) so it's very possible.
